Where to Stay
We will be staying at Fair House Villas and Spa
Not to be confused with Fair House Beach Resort
Fair house is laid back, unfussy and family friendly
With lots of Bacon at the breakfast buffet
The W Hotel is slightly more upmarket and is literally next door
There are hundreds of places to stay across the Island - please stay where ever suits you best
A few local places we like to eat at
Seafood at Sabienglae, there are two locations both are good
Lek thai food and seafood similar to above large thai seafood restaurant which also serves a lot more classic thai dishes
Ban thai a small local restaurant run by a small family food is delicios and very affordable
The Oyster Bar x high end place serving live imported oysters from around the world, we had some great french oysters when we were here last
Ban Suan Lung Khai this is one of our favourite places, serving a set menu for 770 or 1000 Baht per person, really high quality food and unlimited refill of any dish.
Follow your nose! if a local place smells good - give it a go!
Look out for hot Moo Ping at morning markets
As well as fresh mangosteen, durian, lychees, rambutan and tiny sweet banana’s
If you find a market stall that just sells pineapple - try their super sweet ones!
Activities
We highly recommend local, ethical Elephant Sanctuaries.
A good rule of thumb is to avoid anywhere that lets you ride the Elephants
Wild Cottage Elephant Sanctuary is a great place to stay if you have a few extra days.
They have daily elephant feeding, bookable open air Pilates classes (overlooking the Elephants) and a crazy cafe next door that is worth a visit
Getting to Samui
If travelling from Australia the two best options are flying via Singapore or Bangkok. We normally stop over in Bangkok spend a couple nights there and fly with Bangkok air to Koh Samui.
Getting Around
Grab is the ride sharing Uber equivalent in Thailand, download the app upload a card so you can ride without needing to carry any Thai Baht with you.
You can also rent a car or motorbike while on the island as long as you have an international drivers license which are now issued at the RMS in Australia.
Getting Cash
Most ATMs will charge to withdraw cash, we found recently that K bank ATMs don’t. Its always good to have a few thousand baht on you incase of issues with card payments or wanting to buy anything from market or street vendors.
